I took this picture today as a thunderstorm rolled into Elkhart County, Indiana from the northwest. Dark clouds were swallowing the sky, yet this little white barn remained brightly front lit.
The storm was behind it, but the light was still reaching it.
Life can feel that way. Trouble gathers on the horizon. A diagnosis arrives. A relationship becomes strained. Plans unravel. Fear begins whispering that darkness is about to take over.
Storms are real, but they are not the whole story.
This barn did nothing to create the light. It simply stood where the light could reach it. Faith often looks much the same. We do not have to manufacture hope, pretend the clouds are not there or convince ourselves everything will be easy. We simply remain where God has placed us and trust that His presence can still find us in the gathering darkness.
The storm may be approaching, but God has not disappeared.
Sometimes His light does not remove the storm. Instead, it reminds us that the storm does not get the final word. Darkness can surround us without owning us. Fear can rise without ruling us. The sky can grow dark while grace continues to shine.
You may not be able to control the storm moving toward you, but you can keep standing in the light, trusting that God’s faithfulness surrounds you from every direction.
