My new book, Holy Moments for Easily Distracted Disciples: The Acts of the Apostles, is officially available today!
This was both a fun and challenging book to write. Acts is filled with powerful stories of ordinary people who were transformed by the Holy Spirit and courageously set out to tell the world about their firsthand encounters with Jesus.
After the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus, the disciples could have played it safe. Instead, they prayed boldly, shared generously, loved compassionately and proclaimed the gospel wherever God sent them. They faced opposition, persecution, prison cells, angry crowds, shipwrecks and church meetings. Honestly, the shipwrecks may have been easier than some church meetings.
The book of Acts reminds us that the church was never meant to be a building filled with spectators. It is a Spirit-empowered community of believers who serve one another, care for people in need, while carrying the hope of Jesus into a broken world.
Jesus told His followers, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8, NLT). That same calling continues today.
Each of the 60 devotionals in this book are short, honest, slightly humorous and grounded in Scripture. It is written for people who genuinely want to follow Jesus, even when their minds occasionally wander somewhere between opening the Bible and remembering why they walked into the garage.
